Monday, July 28: Steps
Morning
Perhaps you recall a couple weeks ago when the prayer was one step forward, zero steps back. Praise the Lord for forward movement…meal and meal, slowly, methodically, eaten: bite, chew, chew, chew, swallow, breathe. Just eating is exercise.
There was a very odd decision made by docs today…we all questioned it. Yet, J persisted and went through the day, pushing through PT and other activities as asked (challenged).
Afternoon
Walking is arduous and exhausting, but J is doing it…more steps daily. Whether doing heel slides in the bed, stand-sits next to the bed, or strength band work, he is working to put the mental effort forward to do the physical work. This recovery is not for the faint.
My understanding is there were visitors. That’s never a bad thing.
There was a visit with the dietitian and J was very encouraged.
Evening
We were not wrong to question the questionable thing. It was brought to a nurse’s attention; she was not pleased, addressed the issue and confirmed our position. All is well now.
There were some other glitchy challenges this evening, but the nursing team responded with compassion.
Honestly, in all the “stuff” we have walked through with our children, I can stress enough how important it is to advocate for yourself. Not be a booger bear, but asking questions for clarity and understanding forces others to confirm their position which, sometimes, may be protocol, but not best practice in your case. It’s a blessing to have had others advocate for me so I learned to do it for myself and teach our children.
I don’t want to list a scripture out of context on this one, so I’ll just suggest search points and add: trust the Holy Spirit, the ultimate advocate!
Discern, test, advocate, stand
