As I’m here in NYC, my priority is providing support to J and A. I want to provide updates when folks text or call to check in, but it isn’t realistic.

What Happened?

On Thursday, June 26, J went to urgent care for stomach pain. Imaging revealed that his appendix was perforated. He was admitted for observation and IV antibiotics. His vitals changed on Saturday and they operated to remove the appendix and assess the condition of things.

Post-operative events were atypical. Consider it a medical obstacle course.

On Saturday, July 12th, we received word that a second surgery was imminent. That’s when I got clearance from J & A to come out, booked a flight, and came to Brooklyn.

On Monday, July 14th, a third surgery was performed. The outcome was not what we prayed for, but God is faithful.

As I type this on Friday, July 18th, J has been in hospital for 22 days with A sleeping in the most uncomfortable chair by his side. They are exhausted.

He has not had solid food since…in probably 20 days.

I believe the best way to carry on with this special-circumstance blog is to have an entry for each day, a small summary under the headings (morning, afternoon, and night), and then I’ll list praises and prayers within.

Overarching prayer: after weeks of 1 step forward, 3 steps back, please agree with us for “1 step forward, 1 step forward, 1 step forward…” and so on. Specifically:

• Mental and spiritual replenishment.
• Energy to do the exercises from PT.
• Complete healing of a surgical repairs
• Clearing the barriers necessary to be free of the NG tube
• That all food by IV and mouth is tolerated and goes completely through the digestive tract without issue.
