“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
This same verse in the Amplified Classic reads: “Bear (endure, carry) one another’s burdens and troublesome moral faults, and in this way fulfill and observe perfectly the law of Christ (the Messiah) and complete what is lacking [in your obedience to it]”
If a hospital floor doesn’t reveal another’s burdens and give opportunity in a stressful time to experience troublesome moral faults, I don’t know what does!!
With that said, I invite you to pray for someone else’s burden today. Can’t think of anyone?
Then please, lift up the families on our floor. It is clear that two individuals will depart from their earthly bodies soon. At moments, the environment is heavy and hard.
I see one daughter wrestle with her way-to-young father’s departure. I’ve spent time visiting with a gentleman in the family room; it is clear that he using it as a diversion. He is a husband reconciling that his wife isn’t coming home.
Another family is pulling together to pull through: they have folks who have come in from overseas just to sit with and love on their loved one. I see introductions and handshakes in the family space, and then when they emerge from visiting their loved one, downcast heads, shaking back and forth. She will pull through from my assessment of the nurses communication, but the pain management for whatever her situation is a source of grief and difficulty.
I also ask that you lift up the staff and faculty. If you work in the medical world, you know that there is a hierarchy. But there have been observations and comments made in our room that suggest a person holding a position isn’t respected. That makes me sad and angry. The caregiver in question has actually tended to us during this stay. The behavior that has been hinted as immature has actually been received by me as kind and compassionate. Everyone needs something different. We’ve all been on both sides of that. Every gift is useful, but often not recognized as useful.
That said, a HUGE PRAISE for the way this team works together…from those who mop the floors, take vitals, transport patients all the way to the neurosurgeon…they do work as a team to achieve the goal of health. They work so hard and truly care about the patient. They help each other with the rooms and that’s a blessing to experience.
Whose burden can you share today? Even if you just send a card letting someone know you prayed for them.
Thank you for fulfilling the law of Christ by praying for our little clan and the community at large.
